Subject: 20301/Lower taxes/$.01/1997-98 Date: Thu, 4 May 1989 09:49:48 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 20301 A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE INTENT OF THIS CITY COUNCIL TO LOWER ITS TAX RATE FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 1997-1998 BY ONE CENT FOR EACH ONE CENT THE COUNTY MAY RAISE ITS TAX RATE TO RECOUP THE AMOUNT OF CITY PROPERTY TAXES BUDGETED FOR EDUCATION IN THE CITY'S FISCAL YEAR 1997-98 BUDGET, IF THE VOTERS OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA VOTE TO MERGE THE CITY SYSTEM WITH THE COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM. ___________________________ BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, that it is the intent of said Council to lower taxes in the City of Chattanooga, Tennessee, for the fiscal year 1997-1998 by one cent for each one cent the county may raise its tax rate to recoup the amount of city property taxes budgeted for education in the city's fiscal year 1994-95 budget, if the voters of the City of Chattanooga vote to merge the city system into the county system.
